Overview
Context
The Transcendental Meditation (TM) movement began in the early 1950’s and has since been taught to more than 10 million people in over 100 countries. It aims to demystify the timeless knowledge of meditation and verify its effectiveness through the lens of modern science.
Goal
TM has historically always been taught one on one, passed down from Teacher to student due to its intricate nature. When the pandemic struck, there was a need to reimagine the 4 day in person teaching format experience into a virtual experience.
Result
I led the design of a new student management system that helps teachers and the organization keep track of students along their meditation journey. I worked closely with the engineering team to bring the vision to life.
Research
As the creative lead, I planned and led 13 research interviews with users around the world organizing insights on Dovetail to get a systems view.
Product vision
I drove alignment with leadership by communicating a concise design strategy that balances user insights and business goals.
Prototyping & Testing
I conducted 3 design thinking workshops, 8 user testing sessions as well as consistent critiques with the larger design team to ensure design excellence.
Design system
As the sole designer on this project, I created the final user interface and design system working closely with the engineering team on implementation.
A diverse and global research experience
One of the highlights of this project for me was the diversity of the research phase. I conducted research and testing sessions with teachers, students and customer success teams on all 6 continents. It was fascinating to connect with a diverse international community helping me realize that we are more similar than different.
Breezy and delightful
My vision was a dynamic and fun interface that challenges the idea of a boring information heavy dashboard. Clever usage of space and combining data sets in intuitive ways resulted in a dashboard that felt light, reducing cognitive load. I worked closely with our brand designer to explore using motion design to create a playful interface.
